Simple Past

  • The Simple Past is used to talk about activities that ended in the past.
  • Most simple Past verbs are formed by adding –ed to a verb
  • Form

+) S + was/ were + N, Adj, Adv + time signal

-) S + was/ were + not + N, adj, Adv + time signal

?) Was/ were + S + N, adj, adv + time signal

Example:

+)She was a nurse 3 years ago

-)She was not a nurse 3 years ago

?)Was she a nurse 3 years ago ?

 

+)  S + V2 + obj + time signal

-) S + did + not + V1 + obj + time signal

?)Did + S + V1 + obj + time signal

Example :

+) He worked yesterday

-) He did not work yesterday

?) Did he work yesterday ?
